Galveston Fun...

Hotel Galvez

Ah a much needed get-away and break for us. It was our first time to head down to Galveston since Hurricane Ike. It was crazy seeing almost all of the oak trees dead from the sea water.

We decided to do Galveston on a budget, well sort-of. Suzanne told me to go to Priceline.com. I got a room at the Galvez for $95! WooHoo. It was the first time there...nice hotel, though I wish that we would have gotten a room with the ocean view, but oh well. We weren't in the hotel much anyway.
The view from the room

cool chandelier in the hallway

cool pool and view of the ocean

Lunch was at the Mosquito Cafe. Can I tell you how YUM it was??? Wow...the lemon cake melted in my mouth. The goat cheese salad was amazing. I can't wait to go back.

That night we went to Olympia. Good food, a little overpriced, but an amazing view!

The beach was awesome. It's undergoing a lot of renovation/changes still since Ike. I like what they have been doing though.

New Murdochs! WooHoo

Flagship is still destroyed...seriously they need to do something with it.

Fishing Pier that is destroyed

New jetties - pretty awesome!

Lots of work to do still!

The Strand is recovering too...it's a great thing. Feel horrible for all the shops that lost pretty much everything because they where prepared for maybe 3' of water, not 8'. I'm glad all of my favorite shops have reopened.

Head down to Galveston if you get a chance. They need tourism to help rebuilding!
